Together with COSAR gallery from Düsseldorf we present a solo booth with new works by Koen Doodeman.
Koen Doodeman’s works are textile fabrics based on photographs that, from a distance, resemble panel paintings. The balancing act he achieves between photography, painting, and textile objects, and between two-dimensional images and three-dimensional depth effects, is crucial to how his work is perceived.
His work spans a spectrum between painting and textiles, never fully one or the other, as Doodeman seeks the moment in between. He is interested in viewing textile work from a painterly perspective, and vice versa.
In terms of content, his works quite literally interweave abstract and representational motifs. Plants, sunsets, and abstract patterns stand side by side, merging into a unified composition.
Koen Doodeman is a recipient of the Royal Prize for Painting 2014 in The Netherlands, and his works are represented in numerous museum collections there.
As part of Art Cologne, we are presenting Koen Doodeman’s first solo exhibition in Germany.
